They tell you it will be a thrill to see your book in stores (it definitely was), but walking into a public library and finding my book was a bigger deal for me.  I have no delusions about how often the Toronto Public Library gets rid of old books (especially trade paperbacks), but somehow it feels more permanent to be there than in an Indigo. So, I’m pretty chuffed to have been asked to participate in an event at the Sanderson Branch next week.

I can’t remember the last time I was on a discussion panel and this will definitely be my first time as the author of a beer book. Luckily, I’ll be in good company with the retired (and then not) beer blogger Mike Warner — the George Foreman of our niche, product-endorsement empire still pending — as moderator and Stephen Beaumont and Jordan St. John as fellow panelists.

Jordan’s third book, Lost Breweries of Toronto is coming out next month — his first was How to Make Your Own Brewskis and Ontario Beer was number two. I’m pretty sure Mr. Beaumont’s book count is into double digits (we’ll ask) including the recently-added 2015 version of the Pocket Beer Guide. I have ordered one of his (much) earlier works, A Taste for Beer, from Alibris and I hope it arrives in time for an impromptu signing.

If you’re interested in what the four of us have to say about beer books, make your way to the Sanderson Branch of the TPL at 327 Bathurst Street, sometime before 7 PM on Thurssday 18 September. It’s best to register beforehand by calling 416-393-7653 or visiting the brand ahead of time. These same details are on the library’s website here. I will have copies of the Canadian Craft Beer Cookbook for sale and will be happy to sign them.
